"The Tata Aria, the first Indian crossover, will be commercially launched on October 11, 2010. It will be made available across all major cities and towns of the country," the company said in a statement. 

The vehicle, whose development started in 2006, was first shown as a concept at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005 and in the Delhi Auto Expo 2006. It was unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo in January 2010. India's leading auto brand Tata Motors is now ready to project an all new versatile utlity car named Tata Aria in Indian auto market under the MUV segment on 11th October 2010, it has been assembled with all stylish features that any SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) is expected to carry. The new Tata Aria is an eight seater premium MUV (Multi Utility Vehicle) build on roadster concept that Tata Motors exhibited at Geneva Motor Show in the year 2000. Tata Aria captures all possible attributes in every aspect that transform it as one of the most comfortable, capacious & cool designed car around and has got the potential to become a stiff competition for other SUVs & MUVs including Ford Endeavour, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Innova, Honda CR-V, Chevrolet Captiva, Toyota Fortuner and upcoming Skota Yeti. Company officials didn't announce its price yet, Tata Aria is expected to cost between Rs. 10 lac to 12 lacs.
